QUESTIONAIRE

MY STORY

These are the things that I have tried over the years to quit smoking. None of them worked for me.

Going Cold Turkey. That lasted about a day, maybe two. What a joke.!

I once tried a system where you continue to smoke for three weeks as usual. During that time, each time you smoke, you write down the time of day and what you were doing at the time. After the third week, you start to cut out one cigarette at a time. This sounded promising but didn't work for me.

I switched to a pipe for awhile. I also tried switching to cigars. Neither of these worked.

Someone came out with a pill that was supposed to help curb the withdrawal symptoms. What a waste of money that was.

The patch. I tried wearing the nicotine patch for awhile but was in danger of having a heart attack because I would cheat and smoke while wearing the patch.

Nicorette gum. This actually did help me curb my demand for nicotine but it tore up my stomach. Also, there was the later problem of being addicted to the chemical in nicorette and having to break that habit. It's a never ending circle and its all to get your money.

Increased water intake. I read somewhere that if a person drank more water, it would help wash the chemicals out of ones body and reduce the effect of the withdrawal symptoms. This didn't work as stated, but did help me loose some weight.

I tried a program where I used a sewing needle to punch a hole in the filter so that I was getting less tar and nicotene. The idea was to smoke like this for several weeks and then punch two holes and smoke like that for several weeks. You get the picture. This sounded promising, but the nicotene addiction just had too much of a hold on me.

Another similar plan was to put a piece of masking tape on the cigarette close to the filter and smoke down to the tape. Every couple of weeks, I would move the tape closer to the lit end until I finally could quit. Needless to say It didn't work for me. Just think of all the rooms I could have masked off.

Pinkie Promise. My grand daughter convinced me to pinkie promise her that I would quit smoking. It took another 7 years to live up to that promise. I don't think that was what she had in mind.
